Under the umbrella of the Germantown Youth Athletic Association (GYAA), the tradition-rich Germantown competitive baseball program offers boys age 7-14 the opportunity to compete at the highest level, receive coaching from some of the areas top instructors, and play and practice at the top facilities around. Past teams have won numerous local, state & national titles with many of the organization’s alumni going on to star in high school, college and even the professional ranks (e.g. Matt Cain of the San Francisco Giants).
The Germantown Giants organization runs competitive baseball teams for ages 7 to 14 years old. 7 year olds play coach-pitch baseball while ages 8 and up are kid-pitch. In addition to the Giants, Sox and White Sox teams will be formed when there are enough participants (generally ages 9 and up). The Germantown Giants compete at the major level and the Germantown Sox compete at the AAA level.
Competitive teams typically practice 3-5 times per week and play 40-65 games per season, including tournaments, against local, regional and national teams. The competitive teams play under the rules of the USSSA (usssa.org and usssa.com). The USSSA age cut-off is May 1 (for example, a player must still be 8 on April 30, 2007 to play on the 8 year-old team).
Competitive baseball tryouts for 2009 will be Sept. 13th and 14th. Pre-registration is required for tryouts. Download this pdf for registration information and the tryout schedule.
